REVIVAL ARTICLES
THE OUTPOURING OF THE SPIRIT. by Oswald J. Smith. I have recalled to your minds three historical incidents of the Outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Hundreds of others might be cited. But these are sufficient to show what I mean. And this is what we need today more than anything else. Do we need it? Listen! How many of our churches are more than half empty Sunday after Sunday? What a multitude there are who never enter God's house? How many mid-week prayer meetings are alive and prosperous? Where is the hunger for spiritual things? Oh, the shame of it! And Missionsthe lands beyond the seas, heathen darknesswhat are we doing? Does the fact that multitudes are perishing ever cause us an anxious thought? Have we grown selfish?

WHY THERE IS NO REVIVAL. by James A. Stewart. 'So many believers have come to deny the possibility of the supernatural In the church in spite of the fact that the whole fabric of Christianity is interwoven with the supernatural. A supernatural gospel is meant to accomplish supernatural results because it has a supernatural power behind its messengers. We are living in the last days of a dying dispensation of grace when the Holy Spirit is seeking to work in a miraculous way. We have been so brought up in a church that we have lost the sense of the majestic and power of Jehovah. How little sense of the supernatural pervades our services! Oh, how one longs for the Spirit of God to break through all our convictions, campaigns and planned programs and take full control of the church.'

APOSTOLIC MINISTRY. Today right across the church there is more talk than ever before about Apostolic ministry yet one of the greatest and strongest Marks of this ministry is sadly lacking. by RKJ Malcomson.

PICTURE OF A PROPHET. The prophet in his day is fully accepted of God and totally rejected by men. The prophet is violated during his ministry, but he is vindicated by history. He has no price tags. He marches to another drummer! He is excommunicated while alive and exalted when dead! He is dishonored with epithets when breathing and honored with epitaphs when dead. He eats daily the bread of affliction while he ministers, but he feeds the Bread of Life to those who listen. He walks before men for days but has walked before God for years. God have mercy! Send us Prophets.

EDWARD IRVING. Read about this unusual man. Was he a Prophet seeing a far off, or a deceived man who laboured in vain? Read about prayer meetings being held in 1830 in London at 6.30 in the morning where Presbyterians were praying for an outpouring of the Holy Ghost, a restoration of the nine gifts of the Holy Ghost and a restoring of the neglected ministries of Apostle, prophet and Evangelist. by RKJ Malcomson

ALL UNANNOUNCED AND MOSTLY UNDETECTED there has come in modern times a new cross into popular evangelical circles. It is like the old cross, but different: the likenesses are superficial; the differences, fundamental.
The Old Cross And The New
|
THE NAKED CROSS. The Cross is represented by the ancient altars of Israel, where there were to be no groves, or decorations, around the altar. Because God's altar in ancient days was awful and repulsive, men planted groves of trees around it. God commands, "no groves!" Sacrifice is awful. We are to present to the world and to ourselves the naked splendour, the bloody, glory of the Cross. The Cross must be our only appeal. The Cross itself must be the only attraction. It is wrong to arrange any kind of bait to entice people into our services. The Holy Ghost will honour faith and the simple proclamation of the naked truth that Jesus saves through the blood of His Cross. by B.H. Clendennen

WHICH BIBLE Should I use? Why are there so many new versions? Why are so many verses that expose the devil such as "get thee behind me satan" left out of new versions? This is a simple clear article and a great introduction to this subject. by a Missionary.

THE CATHOLIC CHRONICLES, by Keith Green. I believe there has never been such a crucial need to ask these possibly disturbing questions: "Are the heresies of Romanism that brought about the Reformation still alive in the modern Roman Church, or are these doctrinal discrepancies now settled?'' Or worse yet, ''Should the scriptural issues that brought about the spilling of oceans of martyrs' blood now be considered unimportant'?

WAS MOTHER TERESA A CHRISTIAN? An amazing amount of christians are confused on this issue - they aught not to be if they know their Bible. This article deals with this issue and shows that Mother Teresa had no assurance of salvation, that she did not believe that Jesus was the only way to heaven, and that she did not believe that there was a real eternal hell for those who reject Gods offer of free grace through the Blood of His Son.

WHY GOD USED D.L. MOODY by R.A. Torrey. I shall not seek to glorify Mr. Moody, but the God who by His grace, His entirely unmerited favor, used him so mightily, and the Christ who saved him by His atoning death and resurrection life, and the Holy Spirit who lived in him and wrought through him and who alone made him the mighty power that he was to this world. Furthermore: I hope to make it clear that the God who used D. L. Moody in his day is just as ready to use you and me, in this day, if we, on our part, do what D. L. Moody did, which was what made it possible for God to so abundantly use him.

THE NEW MILLENIUM PILGRIMS PROGRESS. A Letter To Old & Young Christians. On this journey through today's church you will meet such characters as Mr. Evangelically Dead, Mr & Mrs.Charismatic, Ms Inner Healing, Pastor Control Everyone, Mr Continuous Grumble, Brother Knot Legal, Miss Sensual and Mr. J. Rome-ward. Some wisdom, warning and warmth is given. "On my travels I have met many people within the Church. Some of them have been gracious, good, wise friends others have almost destroyed me with a vengeance. I thought that if I could maybe describe them to you, warn you and advise you how to act in their company that maybe in my own small way I could help you as we journey together to our final destination at the throne of God. I certainly do not seek to make you sceptical, suspicious or separatist, Oh no, for it is God who planned that I meet each of these persons along the way. It was part of His plan to break me and mould me into the person I will be as I dwell with my Lord and Saviour for all eternity. If you are young in the faith then maybe as yet you have not met such characters but please listen as you can be sure you very soon will. If youre older in the faith then you will recognise at least a few of the following, maybe all. I hope you learned from those meetings, I hope you are not sitting presently as a casualty of the encounter or influence. So let me start."

A LETTER TO THE APOSTLE PAUL. This is a tongue in cheek letter sent from a Mission Board to Paul concerning his independent missionary activities and his application for acceptance. We can only believe that many if not most or even all of his principles, practices and policies would be unacceptable by todays denominations, missionary societies and leaders.

A NAZARITE REMNANT. In Samsons day Gods people had settled down under the oppression of the enemy, there was need for a recovery of Gods work. They were happy to submit to the enemy in order to have peace. One had to be separated out who would not sit under the workings of the enemy, Samson was such. In Samuels day there was no godliness in the temple it was all compromise and apostasy. The people had lost respect for God and His house because of such abuse. There was need for a recovery of the character of God in the ministry and house of God. So God sent a young boy into this environment who was separate and who brought a recovery. In John Baptists day the Pharisees, Sadducees and Scholars had corrupted the Word, hidden it, monopolised it, made money out of it, legalised it, customised it, and nullified its effect amongst the people by their hypocrisies. But again God had a plan of recovery He would separate one out from the religious system who would bring a recovery of truth, of the true Word and message of God. He would be a voice crying in the wilderness

CHOCOLATE SOLDIERS by C. T. Studd. A Soldier without heroism is a chaocalate soldier. Every true Christian is a Soldier of Christ - a hero "par excellence"! Braver than the bravest - scorning the soft seductions of peace and her oft-repeated warnings against hardship...CHOCOLATES are very fond of talking loud and long against some whom they call fanatics, as though there were any danger of Christians being fanatics nowadays! Why, fanatics among Christians are as rare as the "dodo"...God's real people have always been called fanatics. Jesus was called mad; so was Paul; so was Whitfield, Wesley, Moody, Spurgeon. No one has graduated far in God's School who has not been paid the compliment of being called a fanatic. We Christians of today are indeed a tepid crew. Had we but half the fire and enthusiasm of the Suffragettes in the past, we would have the world evangelized and Christ back among us in no time. Had we the pluck and heroism of the Flyers, or the men who volunteered for the North or South Polar Expeditions, or for the Great War, or for any ordinary dare-devil enterprise, we could have every soul on earth knowing the name and salvation of Jesus Christ in less than ten years. , disease, danger, and death, whom he counts among his bosom friends.

THE PERSONALITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. by R.A. Torrey. This chapter is the introdution to his important work 'The Holy Spirit.' Torrey worked closely with D.L. Moddy and from him learnt the importance of being Filled with the Holy Ghost. Both these men were great soul winners. This is an introduction which every believer aught to study concerning the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT by D.L. Moody. "His office work is to convict of sin, to impart the love of God, fill us with hope and courage, to give us liberty to testify of Christ, to teach us all things, to guide us into all truth and convert us...it is His work to fill us, and qualify us for God's service...Now, I want to put this question to the audience. Isn't it the time of need, great need? I think one of the most lamentable things of this day is that Satan can walk right into some of our best Christian homes and families, and haul our children down into the deepest and darkest depths, and we haven't got the power to reach them and bring them back. I don't believe that it is the will of the Almighty that the devil should walk into my home and drag my children down. If we were filled with the Holy Spirit, we could call power down from heaven and save the tempted ones. We haven't got the Holy Ghost power. May God open your eyes now!"

THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT by Martyn Lloyd-Jones. “Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?” In the following edited article by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, is first laid down the principle of ‘Scripture as our Authority’ and then he goes on to teach on the Baptism of the Holy Ghost as a seperate distinct experince from the Regenerative work of the Spirit of God. Some called Lloyd-Jones the last of the Puitans and they were certainly right in the fact that many early Puritans believed in an experience of the Holy Spirit after conversion which they called a 'Baptism' or 'Sealing'. For many years Evangelicals have tried to say that the New Birth and the Baptism of the Spirit were the same but this article clearly shows this to be unscriptural.

Preachers & Preaching
ELEVEN CHARACTERISTICS OF AN EXCELLENT MINISTER by John MacArthur. "The epistle of I Timothy was written to instruct Timothy on how to minister to the church at Ephesus. The key phrase appears in verse 6: "Thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ. "Minister" is the translation of the Greek word diakonos, from which we get the English word deacon. It means "servant" and is used of those who hold the office of deacon in the church. Although the word is not used here in a technical way to designate that office, it implies that anyone who serves in any capacity in ministry must see himself as a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are called to be servants and stewards, managing that which belongs to God in a way that will bring honor to His name. In I Timothy 4:6-16, the apostle Paul gives eleven characteristics of being an excellent minister of Christ."

ARTICLES ON DISCERNMENT
HOW TO TRY THE SPIRITS, by A.W. Tozer. This article lays out several means of testing all doctrines, manifistations, and messengers. he Spirit has spoken expressly that in the latter times some should depart from the faith, giving eed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron. Those days are upon us and we cannot escape them; we must triumph in the midst of them, for such is the will of God concerning us.
